I found out about Beyond through the UK Channel 4 documentary, The Stranger on the Bridge. It follows Jonny’s journey to find Neil, who years earlier had talked him down from a bridge when he was suicidal. After the pair were reunited and taking part in advocacy work they started Beyond .
I followed Beyond on their Instagram when a Story caught my eye: volunteer call! Next: designer wanted! And: work needed ASAP!
I wanted to volunteer with a good cause for a while and their needs matched my skills. I had never volunteered my design skills for a charity before. I rolled up my digital sleeves and reached out to see what I could do.
On the 3rd February 2021, Beyond will host the UK’s first ever mental health and wellbeing festival, Now and Beyond , for primary and secondary schools, during Children’s Mental Health Week. Thousands of schools will have the opportunity to choose from an army of mental health & wellbeing experts donating their time to run sessions for children teaching them all about mental health and wellbeing.
They were in need of a designer to help them finish off designing parts of the site that their agency couldn't complete on time.
With a brand identity in place already and 75% of the site complete I knew I could help.
Key to what Beyond were asking of me was a landing page where members of the public and teachers could go to find out sessions around the UK and sign up.
I wanted to keep the graphic feel of the brand throughout the site without being too distracting or without purpose.
As well as the cornerstone landing page, a template for events pages were needed. Key information such as the event's name, time, and location needed to be called out, as well as the description of the event.
Volunteering with Beyond was modestly-sized, fast-paced, and a highly rewarding collaboration. I look forward to working with them again in the future.
